A map of Makkah’s northern trade routes showing the two main routes used by merchants as they traveled between Makkah and al-Shām (the Levant), usually during the summer season. The map also displays the main towns along the routes. Some towns on the coast, such as Yanbuʿ, also served as sea ports.
Labels on this map include Makkah, Madīnah (Yathrib), Yanbuʿ, al-ʿUlā, al-Wajh, Tabūk, Ḍubāʾ, Āylah, Maʿān, Buṣrá, Ghazzah (Gaza), Damascus, ʿAmmān, Egypt, Sinai, and the Red Sea.
