An illustration depicting the Kaʿbah at two different points in history. The top image shows the Kaʿbah as constructed by Prophets Ibrāhīm (Abraham) and Ismāʿīl (PBUT), while the lower one shows what the structure looked like after the reconstruction undertaken by the tribe of Quraysh during the lifetime of Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ), which became necessary after the old structure had weakened.

More details about the history of the Kaʿbah, including the circumstances surrounding its reconstruction throughout the ages, can be found in my (2020) book, Makkah at the Time of Prophet Muḥammad (PBUH): An Illustrated Reference with Maps of Key Homes, Mountains, and Other Landmarks.
